Objectives

Every industry, workplace, team and individual faces challenges daily. If those challenges are approached with an attitude of mindfulness and creativity then the outcomes will be more beneficial and productive. This ‘hands-on’, ‘minds-on’ workshop will show participants how to access and apply the vast store of knowledge and understanding we all have in order to solve challenges creatively and usefully.  Imagine the impact on your staff, and your team’s productivity if problems were solved innovatively, purposefully and strategically. In a time of budgetary constraints and escalating workplace demands we need to think beyond boundaries in order to not only maintain but lift productivity. This workshop will deliver the strategies by which to do that.

Overview

This course is designed to unlock the enormous potential stored within all of us. Dr Yashin-Shaw delivers a completely new tool for thinking creatively. It incorporates some of the well known elements used in creative problem-solving such as brainstorming, perspective-shifting and synthesising but goes beyond these to place them in a broader context. The new model called StrateGEE® helps people to initiate the creative thinking process and then to sustain it until they reach the outcome they seek.  Over the course of one day, the workshop reveals powerful techniques to:

• Generate ideas
• Explore emerging solutions   
• Evaluate potential outcomes
• Think strategically

Participants will use different modes of thinking to solve different kinds of problems.  For in-house programs the team is asked to bring to the workshop a workplace issue or challenge which would benefit from an innovative approach. As such it is ideal for workplace teams seeking higher productivity as well as a team building activity.

Outcomes

Mastering the StrateGEE® model for creative problem-solving will result in a number of beneficial outcomes for individuals and teams and, by extension, the organisational culture. Conceptual tools such as the StrateGEE® model are useful aids or scaffolds for creative thinking as they provide an heuristic approach to the creative problem-solving process. Providing professional development for your team in using the StrateGEE® model will facilitate the following outcomes:

• A way of overcoming creativity killers. Often in a workplace environment conditions are not conducive to thinking creatively or producing innovative outcomes. Some of the killers of creativity are:

• A starting point for the creative problem-solving process. There is nothing more daunting than a blank page! This tool can kick-start and then help sustain the process of creative problem-solving.
• A means by which teams and individuals can make better use of their time when needing to approach a challenge creatively. The model consists of a number of signposts and prompts which scaffold the problem-solvers approach and cognitive processes so available time is used more effectively.
• A common language with which individuals and teams can identify and make explicit otherwise invisible, internal, cognitive processes. This facilitates the natural synergy of thinking styles and approaches that is inherent within teams but is often overlooked or underestimated as a strength as well as fostering a culture of collaboration.
• A vehicle by which the diversity of thinking, past experiences and perspectives in a team can be formally accessed and synthesized, thereby producing better solutions.
• A workshop context in which people can take risks with their problem-solving approaches and gain confidence in thinking ‘outside the box’.
• A means of helping individuals to externalise thinking so they can reflect on the processes they are using during creative problem-solving. Doing this will assist your staff to become better at thinking creatively and strategically more quickly.
• A clear message to your staff that creative problem-solving is a highly valued skill within the organisation.
